From the marshes it came, slithering with a massive writhing form across the wastelands. Proximity alerts were going off throughout the headquarters at Shin-Ra HQ, and even the news stations had gotten wind of what was happening.
One Half Hour Ago.
“Live from the Shin-Ra News Copter, this is Cowell Cromely,” a voice said across every T.V in Midgar. “A giant snake from the marshlands seems to be on a collision course with Midgar. Security forces are scrambling to keep the city safe.”
“What would cause something like this, Cowell?” another voice said, the screen panning back to a female reporter with blonde hair in a red cardigan.
“There has been an exceptional amount of rainfall over the past few days in the area surrounding Midgar, making the environment a bit more appealing for the creature, Jessica,” Cowell said. “Science teams think something is disturbing its natural habitat, but there hasn’t been official consensus yet… Hold on, I think we have a visual!”
The helicopter panned to a large creature coiled up on the ground. There were several helicopters swarming around it that the creature was snapping its jaws at as they flew by spraying it with bullets.
“Oh my word!” Cowell said. “We are going to try to get a little closer.”
The helicopters were doing a good job overall keeping the snake out of reach. One unlucky group flew a little too low and the zolom managed to ram it with its head. It spun out of control but the news camera didn’t follow it, but the distinct sound of an explosion could be heard in the distance. Another chopper unleashed a set of missiles that caused the snake to reel back and hiss in pain. It’s head began to lower.
“Did that do it?” Cowell asked.
Suddenly, there was a flash of bright orange light. Then, the camera feed cut off.
“Cowell?” Jessica, back at the news station said. “Sorry, we seem to be having technical difficulties. We’ll provide more updates on the situation soon,” she said, but there was a paleness to her face.
Now.
Around the Zolom lay several burning husks of helicopters that had fallen around it. With Midgar just in the distance the creature was taking care of the few troopers left who had survived hiding behind debris and shooting at the beast in vain desperation.
