CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
SOLDIER | GAWAIN | 1st Class
Faction: Shin-Ra | Alignment: Lawful Neutral

SYNOPSIS
A veteran SOLDIER currently stationed within Shin-Ra HQ. A member of the Elite SOLDIER division 'ROUND TABLE', he is the second in command and as such, in charge of the management of logistics and operations, leading to lots of work and not a whole lot of play. He can be found within the upper floors of HQ at pretty much any time, from morning to... morning, as he's been known to work for days on end without rest. He serves Shin-Ra without question, being one of the few 1st Class SOLDIERs to almost never utilize their permission to challenge orders- he'll never oppose them for moral or ethical reasons. But he might voice his concerns if he believes they might compromise his capacity to complete the mission. 

Due to his no questions asked work ethic, he's considered a hot commodity of a 1st Class SOLDIER who's potential is being wasted away behind a desk job by some on the upper echelons of Shin-Ra. So on occasion, he'll be pulled away from his office and assigned some... special missions.

CHARACTER
PERSONALITY
An individual with a calm, pleasant attitude and a serious demeanor. There are no gloomy aspects to his personality, and he possesses an unshakeable smile that refuses to go away even as he enters into  his 48th hour of continuous, sleepless work. Always courteous and polite in tone and intent, if not words, he's obliviously honest to a fault, often forgetting to consider how his words may affect others, which often results in him upsetting many of the people he meets; some, however, may find his airheaded frankness refreshing. 

Despite looking as if he enjoyed a very privileged lifestyle in his youth and having no lack of money due to his current position within Shin-Ra, he enjoys cheap, quick and easy junk foods more than any high class meal, and has a favorite mom & pop's burger joint that can be found near the train station on his way from home to work. He also can often be found munching on some chips or other vending machine goods while working inside his office- though he has somehow figured a way to do so without tainting his paperwork.

GAWAIN does not know the meaning of overwork or rest, and is known to consistently work around the clock due to the large number of responsabilities his combined roles within Shin-Ra leave at his table. 

He possesses a natural eye for talent and skill, as well as commendable leadership, his most powerful leadership-type™ skill being his ability to delegate work to those capable of carrying it out and not spending the entire time those same people are working away from him worrying about it.

These aspects of his character are the reason for which he's in charge of handling the ROUND TABLE's operations and logistics, and leaves public relationships to the leader of the squad, ARTHUR.

GAWAIN is loyal to ARTHUR, ROUND TABLE, and Shin-Ra, in that order, to a most literal fault. It is not something that most would realize from simply interacting with him once or even multiple times, but while he is capable of great good under a just leader, he's just as capable of causing great atrocities if given the order. No matter what he personally believes of the order given, he is as loyal as a dog- and just like well trained one, when his owner tells him to hunt, he hunts.

• Vending Machine Connoseur (He'll always memorize the location of any vending machine type he hasn't seen before and make it his mission to eventually get through all of its contents.)

ROUND TABLE
An Elite Squad within the SOLDIER Program, based upon the legendary summon, The Knights of the Round. It is comprised primarily by 2nd Class SOLDIERs considered to have the potential to ascend to 1st Class, with its leadership being formed by 5 1st Class SOLDIERs: ARTHUR, LANCELOT, GAWAIN, PERCIVAL & TRISTAN. As the name's suggest, all SOLDIERs within the division are codenamed after a legendary figure within the myth surrounding the summon. The rest of the members are christianized either BEDIVERE, KAY, GARETH, GAHERIS, AGRAVAIN, BORS, GALAHAD or MORDRED upon joining. ROUND TABLE operates entirely within Midgar's reach, with each of the 2nd Class members being charged with the protection of a single mako reactor. They are the publicly known last line of defense for Shin-Ra, the 'royal knights' guarding it and the people. 

Or, that is what they were intended to be, anyway. As of now, the bulk of its units has been sent on missions outside of Midgar, their talents being employed to better serve the President's actual interests. The public, however, does not need to know this. 

PLOT HOOKS
Shin-ra
Watercooler Conversation
Literally what it sounds like. If your character's job at Shin-Ra entails spending enough time in the offices of HQ, there's no reason they and GAWAIN couldn't ever have a chat. GAWAIN is friendly and approachable, if serious. Naturally, actual watercoolers are not required, and the conversation need not be meaningless or simple idle chatter. It can be work related, refer to recent events on other threads and site events that might reasonably be expected to have reached either of our character's ears, can be personal interests; anything within reason, really.

Mission
Got everything you need? Good. Let's roll. 

It's unfortunate, but for Missions, it's  a bit more complicated. It cannot be just any thing, simply because someone of his station wouldn't be deployed every time some punk decides to toilet paper Shin-Ra HQ. Perhaps something like a raid against Avalanche, an emergency deployment to protect a Mako Reactor under attack, An (unlikely as it might be) attack on HQ requiring immediate deployment. 

Mission Control
GAWAIN is in charge of handling the operations and logistics of ROUND TABLE. He can also, however, serve as mission control for other SOLDIERs on the field on specially important missions- specially the protection of Mako Reactors, as this is one of the duties of his squad.

SOLDIER, 3rd Class
Your character is a member of SOLDIER, which means they and GAWAIN are Siblings-in-arms. Even if this is the first time they've met, GAWAIN proves to be surprisingly friendly despite his serious look, specially if you are a relatively new recruit. He's always happy to help along with training, specially to those who show potential. It is good practice to cultivate the strength of those who will watch your back, after all. But, ah... could you give him a couple of minutes first? He needs to get through a little more paperwork first...

Hey, if you've got something on your mind go right ahead and pitch! I ain't opposed to anything, so long as it doesn't need to break character logic. Most threads for GAWAIN would occur on the upper side of the plates, and the well-to do plates at that, unless a mission or some kind of assignment had taken him to the slums below, or he was feeling particularly adventurous during his few and far between R&R sessions. 

Avalanche
Terrorist Confirmed
GAWAIN is not often out of HQ, but even he needs some R & R. However, though not often, his sharp gaze will occasionally identify suspicious activity while he's trying to enjoy himself around Midgar. If he manages to identify someone as a member of Avalanche, he'll immediately move to detain. Or kill, if the opposition is strong enough.

Enemy sighted
This time, your character saw GAWAIN first. Maybe he simply recognized the glint of mako in his eyes, or saw his face on the public security propaganda nonsense touting the ROUND TABLE; maybe they met at some point in the past in a raid, or even worked together during the war. Either way, you have identified one of Shin-Ra's most dangerously unquestioning attack dogs. What do?

Unaligned
A random meeting
By pure chance, you've run across GAWAIN, one of those SOLDIERs often seen on TV. Maybe you know everything the public has been told about ROUND TABLE; maybe you've barely heard of it on the radio while working or seen a poster while on your way home.  Maybe you've never even heard of them.

Public Order must be maintained
You need not be Avalanche to fall within the reach of the law! If GAWAIN is present when someone breaks the law, you can be sure he'll be on their ass like a bloodhound.

Wu Tai
Heretic Sword Saint: A Hero killer
Infamous in Wutai for killing multiple masters of martial arts and forcibly attaining the acclaimed title of 'Kensei'; or Sword Saint, GAWAIN's relationship with most Wutais still sympathizing with their country and their cause is definitely destined to be a hostile one- though he himself does not particularly care one way or another.
