Shin-Ra BROADCAST SYSTEM - We interrupt this program to bring a special address from the Shin-Ra Electric Company.
“Valued customers, it seems it has been an age since we last spoke,” an auburn haired man with a receding hairline and hard wrinkles on his forehead said. He was sitting in a chair behind a large metallic desk with crimson flags branding the Shin-Ra tag on them. His face held a warm smile that revealed laugh lines, but his eyes were cool and distant. “Our worldwide operations have pulled me away from the city for a time, but I am glad to be back.”
The President stood up as his camera crew zoomed the screen further towards his face. He adjusted his tie and took a sip from a glass of water before placing it down on the desk again. The whole thing was a lie, he hadn’t set foot outside of the city. He had been undergoing treatments in the laboratory for his new… condition.
“I had hoped that upon my return to the city, we would be able to refocus our efforts on construction. We know there isn't enough room on the plate, and we havn't forgotten about the people living below,” he said, his smile fading into a frown. “Sadly, our great city has become infested… infested with vermin who call themselves ‘Avalanche’. You can trace their roots back to the same group responsible for the death of my beloved father and pulled us into a forsaken war. As you know, many of our finest First Class SOLDIERs remain deployed to keep the Wutai situation and new territories under control…”
He cleared his throat and sat back down, opening his eyes wider.
“Now more than ever, security is our biggest priority. With the increased demand on our armed forces, some customers may see a small increase on their electricity bill. Rest assured, these increases are only temporary. We will also continue to focus on improving the security situation in the city, please continue to comply with random security checks and orders. With your help we will put a stop to this terrorist threat so that we can focus on building a better Midgar for all. I invite you to report any suspicious activity to your local police department, and as always thank you for your business...”
As the broadcast cut off, the president stepped out from behind his desk, lighting a cigarette. He approached the window and looked down at the city below with a blank look.
