Fieldy’s materia continued to glow with azure light as he held up his hands to concentrate his power on the sphere of water that was slowly but surely drowning the terrifying creature.
The dust in the air was beginning to subside but he did not see his assailant as he focused on the serpent. All he saw was a bright light and a sudden heat in his chest. He fell back and landed on the ground, the glow of the materia blinking in and out rapidly until it stopped. "Ouch!" FIeldy cried, scrambling to his feet. He shook his head as Choco ran to his side. He quickly mounted the chocobo and began moving towards the rear side of the snake.
“Did the snake do that?” Fieldy asked himself. “Kweh,” Choco responded.

“Hostile engaged!” Oswald yelled as he mounted the RPG onto his shoulder and took a knee. He followed his training and moved to eliminate the target of his superior. From the head of the launcher a rocket fired at the chocobo mounted person of interest.
The rocket propelled grenade launched towards Fieldy and landed on the ground nearby in an explosive boom that filled the area around him with dust a shrapnel. Whether it was a direct hit or not Oswald could not tell, but he drew his rifle and began rushing forward.
Without comms himself he didn’t really know what was going on. Perhaps this person that the SOLDIER had attacked was in control of the snake. He didn’t know, and he didn’t care.

The Zolom thrashed about wildly as it searched for an avenue of escape back towards the marshes. There was a flash of light ahead and the crisp smell of ozone as @amanda’s lightning spell tore across the landscape. The heavy footfalls of soldiers in full combat gear could be heard running in all directions but it was a boot to the back of the head that drew his ire.
The water swirling around the Zolom’s fangs began to freeze but shattered into hundreds of jagged shards as it unhinged its jaw and reared its head to try and snatch up the pesky SOLDIER, @rin.
It slithered over its coiled body in an attempt to retreat towards Midgar and away from the most immediate threat, unwinding as it did so and threatening to crush GAWAIN and Fieldy if they did not move in time. The creature pulled back as a grenade was launched into its path and exploded on impact.
as Oswald fired an RPG somewhere where he wasnt looking lucas covered his ears for a second before looking at him "WHAT THE %$@# ARE YOU SHOOTING AT SOLIDER BOY?!" he yelled before looking at who was giving orders "hey big shot how much closer till this thing is in your special hole?!" he asked gawain assuming he was in charge
It would seem like Rin’s kick made its mark as there was another on the back of Zolom’s head. Luckily whoever it was made their dismount before anything dangerous came from Rin’s action. The intent behind Rin’s approach was responded with violence from the Zolom as it reared its head back. Gawain’s voice spoke in Rin’s earpiece as the slums were already taken care of. Simply take the Zolom swiftly to the rendezvous point.
”Alright then, come on and catch me if you can.” Rin mumbled towards the big snake as he anticipated Zolom to strike back in retaliation. The air is something Rin held superiority over and his transformed state doubled his capabilities in flight. When Zolom retaliated, Rin quickly ascended with a flip over Zolom's head. In which case Rin will counter by slamming both feet on top of Zolom’s head at the end of his flip. Upon impact Rin hopes that it’ll show the damage in some way, but at the very least a small patch of ice coats a couple of scales. If successful, Rin will follow-up by using a mixture of leaping for a speed boost as he takes flight in his ascension.
With the combination of high level magic being thrown at the Zolom, and an explosion of shrapnel at Zolom’s soft belly reverberating in the air. Rin figured that in order to keep Zolom’s attention on himself or at least Midgar’s defensive walls. He would need to occasionally attack or perhaps throw some magic of his own at Zolom. Problem is that given the size of Zolom, Rin doubts that ice shards would do much aside from tickling it. Targeting the eyes would be great, but Rin needs Zolom able to see Rin or else it might wander off. Either way, Rin keeps his glowing icy blue eyes mostly focused on Zolom and will fly towards Midgar. Staying just ahead of Zolom as frost trails behind him. The cold never bothered him, but whether it's from just the Mako or the J-Cell remains unknown to him. Either way he plans to use these abilities to his advantage.
As the forces moved to see his orders through, the giant Zolom made its move. Heavily injured and having nearly been drowned, it was no surprise that it was attempting to make a desperate escape.
Unfortunately for it, it was simply playing its role as they had expected it too.
The materia slotted into his gauntlet shone gold as leapt over its uncoiling body, flipping across the air to land atop the length of it before slipping his digits under one of its mana scales, finding his purchase upon it.
Breathing in slowly, the man lowered his body close to the Zolom's own, his green eyes flashing as his calves tensed before he pushed off.
He leapt forward over the dangerous, shifting surface that was the snake's massive body, experience, guesswork and a good amount of luck guiding his each leap. One false step and he would probably fall and be crushed by the rushing mass of the creature.
With any luck, it wouldn't come to that. Still...
'I really need to get out of the office more often.' Thought the middle aged blonde as he felt his heart pump inside his chest a bit too fast and his body burn with exertion. An unfamiliar and unwelcome feeling that reminded him of both his age and current station.

“Oh! Got it.” Thalia responded to Amanda’s simple explanation of what was happening. They were taking the monster somewhere in the city to be experimented on by some of the more brainy types. It seemed do-able.
The SOLDIER 3rd Class was behind the fleeing Zolom and so determined that it was her role to make sure the creature continued to have something to run from. She didn’t think it could handle too much more damage though so she just held her swords over her head and banged them together as loudly as she could before spotting a nearby downed chopper and banging on that instead.
The sound of clanging and scraping metal would echo behind the Zolom as a hoarse battle cry ripped through her vocal cords expelling a screech like an angry harpy along with a decent amount of spittle.

Amanda blinked and frowned as her trooper unleashed everything he had at the young mage.
"Hold your fi--" She began, but her voice was pointless as the trooper rushed away, filling the air with gunfire.
She turned away from him with a sigh. He'd figure it out eventually, and hopefully return to her side. It would be a shame if he killed the young mage. He could help them with the mission, and perhaps Autumn could have a look at him for SOLDIER once it was all said and done. Ah well.
Amanda was at ease as she navigated the field. That brush with magical might had given a sense of calm and focus she hadn't had when he entered the fray. The massive bulk of the Zolom was beside her as it slithered past, attempting its escape. It might not know who'd nearly slain it with lightning, but it would certainly remember its taste.
She fell in beside Thalia and walked briskly in the beast's wake. Thalia busied herself making a violent racquet behind the beast to ward it away. Amanda joined her. There was a crack as Amanda called lighting to strike behind it to speed it along the path she saw GAWAIN and the other SOLDIERS making.
She prepared to cast another column of lightning in warning if the beast wandered off course.
There seemed to be a bit of infighting among those on his side, at least as far as Azure felt was important in this particular conflict of "everyone vs. the Zolom." Unbeknownst to him, not "everyone" on the side of "everyone" was necessarily on the same side as "everyone else" when it came to the full picture of things, but even if he were to be alerted to or otherwise learn of this fact, it probably wouldn't make much difference this time around-- united front against a common enemy and all that. A shame that there wasn't any time to share his philosophical ideals with the others though, as the Zolom was on the move.
"It seems our quarry is running, so to speak, and it is time for us to give chase." While the Turk and the fishman were potentially discussing how best go about the activity of corralling a monstrous serpent without further harming it, others were already on the attack, and to their credit, the snake was on the right track so far as the mission was concerned.
So Azure, true to his words, followed in a series of long leaps, quick and low to the ground but covering incredible distance, like the hasty stride of a great colossus. And with each landing and subsequent Jump, even one upon a downed helicopter being used like a battle drum, the golden materia grew a little bit brighter... Until at last with the Zolom in spitting distance, the sahagin-spawned took to the skies yet again and did exactly that.
That is-- he spit, a blast of magically charged water ejected from his mouth and towards the tail end of the serpent. Even if the fishman did manage to hit it, it would just a tiny little slap on the bum for a beast as monstrous as it was, but still hopefully enough to encourage a bit of haste in the thing.
Cast Water 1 at the Zolom's butt. I guess it's a "cloaca" since this is a snek. Also jumped right past Thalia and Amanda, which seemed like a fun idea.
Fieldy had no idea of the rocket that was propelled towards himself and Choco. It was the movement of the Zolom that caused him to change course. As its scales came near, the fair haired youth on the yellow chocobo jumped to the side to avoid it.
The rocket struck the ground right beside them, thankfully not a direct hit but the shrapnel still peppered both Fieldy and his mount. The force of the blast pushed him off of Choco and onto the ground.
The bird had bits of red staining its feathers. The bird moved towards the wounded boy and began doing a strange dance, making painstaking noise as it struggled to support itself.
“Choco, no,” FIeldy said as he reached towards the bird from his place on the ground, blood coming out of the side of his mouth. “Use that on yourself,” he begged.
Choco shook his head and continued the dance. Green light began to emerge from the ground and envelope Fieldy. His wounds began to heal as tears started to come down from his eyes. Choco fell to the ground, passing out, and Fieldy stood up with anger in his eyes. He would not move to retaliate, however, he picked the bird up over his shoulders and began carrying it away from the battle slowly.

From the smoke of his own blast and the movements of the serpent, there was no visibility left on the unidentified person that the SOLDIER had led an attack on. Oswald was satisfied that they were probably blown to smithereens. The serpent started to move towards Midgar, and he cleared out of the way and continued to fire his rifle from the side.
He wished that he had his helmet. Without it he couldn’t hear any communications, it almost seemed like everyone was holding back now. Still, he continued to pepper the Zolom with small arms fire.
Autumn put her radio down on the ground next to where she was sitting and glanced at Leon. It was unfortunate that he had been there to overhear at least her side of the conversation with her uncle even if he didn’t know who was on the other end. He’d be aware of their plan to shepherd the Zolom into the slums to be experimented on by the company.
The last time they had met he’d said he would rather be satisfied than successful. All his talk about making choices had struck the Turk as vaguely suspicious and during a rare moment of downtime at work she had done a quick search through the SOLDIER personnel rosters for anyone named Leon. She’d come across an Artorius Leonhardt that had been labeled missing in action near the end of the war. There it was… a picture of “Leon” staring at her through her computer screen with his mako eyes. He looked younger in the picture but it was unquestionably the man from the train.
She ran her fingers through her copper hair and breathed a heavy sigh, “I like you Leon. You seem like a good man and I’m grateful to you for saving me.”
Autumn drew her pistol and pointed it at the SOLDIER’s chest, keeping it close to her stomach so as not to be too obvious from a distance. She didn’t want Dart and Azure rushing over to assist her since she wasn’t planning on arresting the defector.
“You might believe that you have a choice to make here but I’m going to make this easy for you. If you try to interfere in any way, I will not hesitate to shoot you.”

The Zolom whipped around in panic until it felt an icy blow upon its head. The tongueless serpent would snap its jaws towards the SOLDIER in hopes to quickly snatch him into its mouth. It committed to following him for several attempts until the eye that was still working began to glow orange, followed by a quick beam of destructive fiery power in Rin’s direction.
Gawain was able to break free of the snake. When the lightning struck the ground near it, the Zolom seemed to recall its recent encounter and reeled its head away from it.
Then came an unpleasant splash against its cloaca, spurring its movement even further. The creature’s body raised and then lowered as it lunged forward, the upper half in the air for a moment before the lower half entered. It managed to clear the debris of most of the helicopters, though because it never fully left the ground, all nearby were at risk for being hit by the creature's body as it made its way towards Midgar.
It seemed the Zolom did have its sight on the largest terrain feature that it could hide in nearby. It was slithering towards the city, but if the company wanted it to go to a particular spot, they would have to continue their efforts.
His feet touched down upon the scales once again, but he did not spring right into another jump; he crouched low instead, grasping firmly onto one of the monster's scales, as torrents of water and thunderous lightning rained all around the beast.
This...
'This is recklessly dangerous.' The blonde thought the obvious as he felt a bead of sweat roll down his cheek.
But if he just jumped off now it would all have been a waste of time. Not to mention he would look extremely lame in front of all these troopers and SOLDIERs...
N-not that he cared about that or anything.
'Bugger it.' He huffed to himself as his muscles tensed. The salvo of magic was over for now, at least. He could still hear someone loudly screaming at the top of their lungs while clanging metal together though.
'Somehow, I feel as though the sight must be adorable.' He thought idly as he leapt forth once again.
Encouraging the Zolom to move faster seemed like a good idea at the time, though Midgar was quite a bit further off than first thought, and catching up to the enormous serpent at its increased pace was proving quite a task.
Azure hit the ground following his most recent jump but stayed crouching for a moment this time, allowing the cloud of wasteland dust to settle before finally standing and gazing at the monster, itself retreating towards the massive city in the distance. At least it was still heading in basically the correct direction-- certainly a win in the fishman's metaphorical book-- though apparently not quite ready to stay down for the 10-count judging by the appearance of yet another searing gaze.
Could at least just take it to the capture location if that were the case, rather than attempting to herd it as they were now... Azure scratched at his chin with one of his scaled fingers, turning around to look back at the downed-helicopte-turned-drumset he had leapt off just moments ago, pondering his options. A working chopper would be extremely useful right about now...
Or at least a minigun. Not quite sure what real help that would be, but at least they're enjoyable. Miss it already, really.
