Name: Takeyoshi "Crow" Urabito
Age: 38
Faction: Shin-Ra
Weapon: Revolver
Appearance:
At first glance, Takeyoshi seems young for his age. However, he carries the proof of his experiences upon his body in the form of battle scars, tattoos, and disfigurements. The most distinctive of his features is the loss of the right eye; however the remaining one still has an amber gold iris that works. The lost eye is generally always covered by an eye patch which is subsequently hidden behind locks of raven black hair. For hairdos, it is generally kept at medium length and shaggy to hide the aforementioned eye patch; but there are rare occasions where it will be tied back. These features are backdropped by a tan complexion which assists in hiding some of his scars and body art.
His entire torso is peppered with the scars of the Wutai war. Some of the worst example looked like a friend had taken more than a few chunks out of him. Though the more visible ones actually ended up being the least sizable; a sliver taken from his right ear and a knick on the very corner of his left eye. The scars on the left side of his torso and arm are muddled by the body mural adorning his brown skin.
Upon inspection of the work of art, one can glean the artistic representations of some of the elemental spirits that make up the fabric of our planet. Leviathan is at the top; decorating some of his neck and shoulder, Bahamut adorns his arm, Shiva over his heart, and Ifrit wraps around the left side of his abs and onto his back. While wearing a collared shirt, Bahamut's claw can be seen on his wrist and Leviathan's tailfin occasionally pokes out from beneath his shirt collar.
Tak suffers from a constant effort to haphazardly quit smoking. On good days, he will generally find a suitable candy to keep his hands and mouth busy. On bad ones is when he may be found with a cigarette, generally procured on-site somehow.
About:
Personality: Specialist Takeyoshi "Crow" Urabito is easy going and has a strong sense of pragmatism. He seems comfortable in any situation and can generally make friends in any room he finds himself in. This gregarious nature gives him a gift for recruitment, and makes him an effective ally in Shin-Ra politics. Ideologically, he understands Shin-Ra's purpose. That civil unrest and extreme activism/terrorism, has the adverse effect of making patriotic pay more of their taxes to keep themselves reasonably protected. Keeping one side sufficiently angry while the other is sufficiently happy, creates a reliable system that ultimately feeds into his yearly bonus. They have no incentive to be better as long as terrorists give them an excuse to make better guns.
That being said, he is not a monster. Among the Turks, he is the least likely to use violence and the first to suggest diplomatic options. As far as he's concerned, shows of force belong in Public Security or the SOLDIER science experiments. He values more subtle tactics.
History:
Born a Wutai national; Takeyoshi enlisted in the Shin-ra Peacekeeping corps at the youngest age possible. According to him, it was time to start earning a real paycheck. Whether he ever had deeper reasoning beyond that, is unclear. In basic grunt training, he gained an affinity for marksmanship and was shipped off to the many conflicts that solidified his employer's power around the globe.
The unit that Tak belonged to had been called the "White Ravens". Though its existence cannot be truly validated since they do not exist in any readily available Shin-ra records or documentation. The specialist's only response to this fact was a wry smile and a joke about how their actions would not have been much of a story to record. However, countless anecdotes about the many war buddies he used to serve with seem to tell a different story. He seems able to pick out a new name with some great feat of heroism and skill attached to it.
What Tak did reveal is that the White Ravens had been made up entirely of Wutai refugees like himself. Young people who believed in the future that Shin-ra was selling, and rejected a traditionalist culture that had no intent to evolve. To complete the look, they were equipped with Shin-Ra developed Gunhalberds; a traditional yet contemporary weapon of Wutai. This elaborate illusion of hope was enough for most Wutai refugees to sign up for what would become the most dangerous unit of the army. They were "Artillery Dragoons": soldiers trained in using Jump maneuvers. Their units were placed on the front lines, meant to break sieges by jumping headfirst into them. According to Tak's story, the unit enjoyed a successful campaign and were suddenly disbanded due to "politics". He will also dodge any followup question of where his former comrades ended up.
After their disbandment, the only member that would continue to hold a position at the company would end up being Specialist Takeyoshi. He had been transferred from the front lines to the office, becoming a recruitment analyst for the Turks. His natural talent for social engineering had become a powerful resource in seeking out SOLDIER candidates and allowed him to start on the ground floor of their rise as an intelligence agency. He could con his way into any organization, settlement, or religious to get to his target. He could manipulate that target socially, financially, or even politically; to get them to sign on the dotted line. One time; he had to organize an entire propaganda campaign centered around a single town. It would involve re-educating the populace into supporting Shin-ra enough to impress the obligation of enlistment onto their youth. Another time, he had to become a target's best friend to "advise" them in the right direction. He doesn't like to talk about the time he killed the right people to make a target sign up for revenge on the wrong guy.
Specialist Takeyoshi's subversively insidious approach became the signature for the organization as they became central to controlling information across Midgar. With his guidance; they apply pain where useful, support when appropriate, and media cover-ups when necessary. He ultimately worked his way to the promotion of head of the department; a position where he now acts as primary liaison between the military and the media and primary investigations strategist for the company's more ambitious initiatives.
Archetype: 0 Fight / 2 Magic
Special Features:
Ranged: Takeyoshi's revolver can utilize attachments to suit a variety of materia applications. The ammunition utilizes an incredibly high caliber projectile, which better adheres to magical effects and provides adequate stopping power without magic. However, the weapon only has a reserve of six shots and reloading can be time consuming.
