About: "Cactus Jack" is the leader of The Manji Group, and the de facto proprietor of Wall Market. Under his guidance, Wall Market has become a landmark galleria, granting him considerable influence throughout The Midgar Slums.
The adage, "All roads lead to Jack", has become a popular saying in lower Midgar, further illustrating the amount of leverage he holds beneath the plate.
The Manji Group, or simply Manji, began as a militia that protected citizens from wayward beasts and would-be marauders. Now it is the largest criminal enterprise operating in Midgar. Manji specializes in pharmaceuticals, money lending, and private security services.
Much of Jack's life prior to his infamy remains unclear, so much so that even his real name is open to debate.
What can be said about him is hearsay at best, or a combination of fact and fiction. Seldom without his henchmen, Sheck and Tolliver, the tenets of Wall Market view Jack as a fair but ruthless businessman; they often describe him as shrewd, laid-back, and avuncular.
Older slum dwellers claim he is an opportunist that monopolized the budding Wall Market at the crux of the Wutai War. Others speculate that he has direct ties to Shin-Ra, or that he may be a casualty of the Wutai War. He has been praised for revitalizing the slums by his supporters, and rumored to be a private financier of the terrorist organization AVALANCHE by his detractors.
Wherever the truth lies, most people can agree on one thing: Cactus Jack is quietly becoming one of the most powerful figures in Midgar.
