Autumn looked down at the picture of a dark haired boy with a burn scar on the side of his face. He was young but he looked tough. She let out a heavy sigh. Most of the time when she was given a mission to recruit a potential candidate for the SOLDIER program, they weren’t so difficult to find.
Her first stop had been the science department. The Turk had a rather peculiar conversation with the candidate’s father. It was strange how little the man seemed to know about his son’s whereabouts. It wasn’t until towards the end of the interview that she received any indication that he even cared.
“If you can bring my son back into the fold…” The man’s voice broke and for a moment Autumn could almost see the emptiness within him. The Turk nodded. There was a deep regret communicated in the silence that followed and she didn’t begin to question the sincerity of his motives until she began hearing stories of his childhood from former friends and classmates.
She’d begun to wonder if she was looking for a ghost when finally she caught a break. A trooper she’d worked with on several occasions had spotted someone matching Iroh’s description… in the slums.
