Her magic cut into the creature and straight through it as though it weren't there. But it did not scream or pause or hesitate. The sludge sprayed everywhere as it stumbled towards them. Amanda thought a bolt of lightning through the skull would put it down forever, but in such a tight space the thunder could be dangerous to both GAWAIN and herself.
Luckily, GAWAIN's quick thinking saved them from having to find out. SLAM! The door was shut and the creature bit the wood and struggled to get through it and at them. She stared at it with GAWAIN for a second, then looked up when he turned to her. She grinned for a second before quickly falling back into the grim focus she'd had before. 'Good job' wasn't something she'd heard from him before.
"Thank you, sir." she replied once he'd dispatched the creature.
She listened as he revealed the aberrant nature of the thing they'd fought. Not much, if at all stronger than in life? Had it grabbed Amanda, even with her SOLDIER's strength, she would have struggled to grapple with it for more than a few seconds.
Was it? she wondered when GAWAIN called it problematic. "It's unfortunate what happened to the folks here," she finally said, "If we find the scientist, maybe it'll be worth it."
Amanda silently agreed with GAWAIN. That was the first, but it wouldn't be the last. Soon they'd have families of the things at their backs. It was a tough choice. She wondered what GAWAIN would decide. Suddenly, he turned to her. She raised her eyebrows as he looked at her. Did she have something on her face?
Oh. He wanted her opinion? Oh, this was definitely a test. She could see it all over his face. She thought about it for a second more. "The scientist is our mission. Like I said, if we can save him all of this could be worth it. Fighting our way back out could go bad, but, so could fighting our way down. If we clear the building and our escape and lose our guy in the process..." She shook her head. "I think we should complete the mission, sir. What do you think, sir?"
