He only realized what a strange day was still ahead of him when he automatically reached with his left hand for the stack of papers usually found on the side of his large desk, and only found empty space.
Huh. No more paperwork. Okay. That was unusual. Normally they kept it coming and coming until his hard working secretaries, bless their souls, left for a well deserved rest at their homes.
Oh well. No more paperwork left didn't mean he was done; immedately, the man spun on his swivel chair to face the screen of his laptop, typing swiftly to open up his e-mails. However, this was not the first time in the day he had done this; it was not even the first time in the last 10 minutes, for that matter. His mailbox was devoid of anything new; he had answered it all delightfully promptly, as usual.
Okay... With that out of the picture, the man finally turned his gaze to his company-issued cellphone. No new text messages. No missed calls. Still, he remained in his seat for a full 10 minutes, staring down at the screen nearly unblinkingly with an iron willed focus.
Nothing.
"Huh." Finally uttered the blonde man, slowly settling the cellphone down unto the table as his brows furrowed just slightly, his usual smile just slightly more taut than normal... And then he just shrugged. "I suppose that's it for today, then." He said as he reached for his laptop's screen and gently swung it shut, standing up from his seat and stretching his arms above his head with a delighted grunt before allowing them to swing back down to his sides.
He then began to collect his belongings, slipping them into his briefcase before moving to his office's door.
This whole ritual was something that occurred without failure every single time he found himself finishing early. GAWAIN just needed to be absolutely sure there was nothing that needed to be done before he could take his leave home.
Exiting the office, he made a note of the hour on the wall clock of the office -5: 47 p.m.-, stopping to stare at it for a moment before reaching with his hand to scratch the back of his head sheepishly. Way too early.
Exiting through the main doors of the building, the man came to a stop just in front of the lobby and breathed in that fresh, smoggy air of Midgar before immediately hanging his head in defeat, his smile more surly than usual.
"Ahaha... What to do...?" He supposed he could go straight home, but then what? He didn't have anyone awaiting for him- and he hadn't found the time to plant new flowers on his little balcony garden after the last batch died of loneliness...
Oh well. He supposed he could listen to ol' Barbra's soothing jams for a couple of hours. He had a good book he had been wanting to finish for a while now anyway.
